Access to the library is free. Students in good standing with university fees are automatically enabled to the online services of all Sapienza libraries. Other users interested in using the library services must register by presenting a valid identity document to the counter staff. All users can take advantage of the library services:
- ask for books for consultation and loan;
- access document delivery via NILDE for the supply of articles;
- loan a book available in another library;
- reference for bibliographical information, assistance and orientation;
- teaching services.
- Consultation
The consultation of the documentary holdings is allowed to all users, but only in the reading rooms of the library.
Molecular models for the study of chemical structures can be borrowed from the library.
- Loan
It is possible to activate the loan by contacting the counter staff or by using the online services of the Sapienza library catalog.
The volumes owned by the library (monographs, periodicals, degree theses) are present in the Sapienza electronic catalog; for journals, the Italian catalog of periodicals can be also be consulted. Most of the e-resources (electronic periodicals, databases, etc.) of Sapienza libraries are accessible by Discovery Sapienza.
The following are excluded from borrowing:
- ancient and valuable material;
- reference works (dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographic repertoires, etc.);
- periodicals.
Borrowing is personal and the user is responsible for the documents received and their integrity.
- Inter Library Loan (ILL)
The interlibrary loan service is available to borrow books or articles (in paper or digital format) that are not owned by the library and are not available online.
- Metropolitan Interlibrary Loan
The BiCB Illuminati participates in the PIM, promoted by the "Instituzione Sistema biblioteche e centri culturali di Roma Capitale", which allows users to borrow from the libraries of Rome bibliographic resources that are not owned by the Sapienza Libraries.

- Document Delivery
The library provides a free document delivery service on a reciprocal basis through the NILDE network (registration is required to use the system).
- Electronic Resource Consultation
Sapienza offers a FLYER so that you can consult restricted electronic resources such as journals, databases, e-books, etc. from outside the University network (e.g., from home). To use the service, simply authenticate with your email address @studenti.uniroma1.it or @uniroma1.it.
- Information Literacy in the Library
The Library offers (on request and every four months, about 3 times a year) a basic course in Information Literacy (in Italian language).
- BiblioTandem - Language Tandem
Biblio Tandem is a cultural-linguistic exchange, an opportunity for improving Italian language by also getting to know other cultures and lifestyles, and a way for incoming students to meet native-speaker students of the Faculty of Mathematical, Natural and Physical Sciences.

- Accessible books
Illuminati Library is available to students with disabilities and DSAs with accessible copies of books or other materials for study or research, through the Students with Disabilities and DSA Sector.
- Libraries Together - Roman Universities Agreement
Thanks to the agreement for reciprocity of library services between the Sapienza University, the Tor Vergata University, the Roma Tre University and the Foro italico University, Illuminati Library offers to all users of the affiliated universities access to its facilities for library consultation, loan service, computer stations for bibliographic research and access to Sapienza's information resources on the Wi-Fi network by Eduroam network.
